Kathy Otwell Named Executive Director of The Harbor at Opelika

OPELIKA, Ala. (May 15, 2019) - Kathy Otwell has been named executive director of The Harbor at Opelika, a premier Alzheimer’s and memory specialty care assisted living community serving the Auburn-Opelika area.

In her new role, Otwell will work to maintain quality care at a facility that is quickly building a reputation as one of the most caring senior living communities in Central Alabama. She will continue to shower residents with kindness and love, while ensuring they receive the highest quality of care.

"We are ecstatic to welcome Kathy into this position as executive director for The Harbor at Opelika. She has shown immense dedication to her position, but above all else she continually shows exceptional care for our residents,” said Christy Goodwin, senior executive director of The Harbor at Opelika.

Prior to her advancement as executive director, Otwell served as the community’s resident services director. She previously served as a staff nurse at The Harbor at Hickory Hill in Prattville, Ala., a sister facility which is part of a family of assisted living communities across the Southeast operated by the Cleveland, Tenn.-based Legacy Senior Living.

"I feel honored to step into the role of executive director. It will give me the opportunity to support our wonderful caregiving team to ensure The Harbor at Opelika continues to be a loving and positive atmosphere for our residents,” said Otwell.

Otwell attended Reid State Technical College in Evergreen and received her LPN with some additional schooling at Wallace Community College in Dothan.

Otwell and her husband, Mark, live in Alexander City, Ala. They have a son and daughter and three grandchildren. Otwell enjoys spending time with her family.
